The Higher School Certificate (HSC) Masterclasses provide an opportunity for practical workshops for students and professional learning for teachers to work with Artists-in-Residence and members of the SCS Arts Team to enhance skills and techniques in core and elective components of the HSC syllabus.

There is no cost for Sydney Catholic Schools’ students and teachers to participate in these programs.

2023 Term 1 Masterclass Workshops 

MUSIC COMPOSITION

Under the guidance of Education Officer James Long, examine successful strategies around HSC Music Composition including how to: develop a theme or motif, create variety and contrast and unique harmonious language, and use scoring techniques for your specific instrument or ensemble.

MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Work with Artist in Residence, Deborah Rogers, to learn how to reduce the feelings caused by anxious and nervous energy in performance and increase your performance success by using the power of your breath.

DANCE COMPOSITION

This practical workshop led by Artist in Residence, Brad Carter, will inspire young dance artists to develop a choreographic skill set through improvisation, collaboration and physical thinking moving from known to more original unique movements.

DANCE PERFORMANCE

Experience a technique class led by choreographer, Sally Dashwood, exploring the sequencing of practical experience to build stamina and core strength for the core performance.

DRAMA INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE 

Examine the process from monologue selection, workshop script analysis, creating a promptbook, refining character development and synthesising discussion regarding the process via a logbook. Facilitated by Artist-in Residence, Jordan Vassallo and Education Officer, Henri Stathopoulos.
